I grew up in Houston, and we don't have seasons, it's hot or wet. So when I moved out to the Pacific Northwest for college, the idea of picking pumpkins or going through a corn maze was a crazy and foreign idea. But the first time I did it, I swore when I had children, they would always know this fun. So, since my boys were little, we have always donned our boots and gone through a local corn maze, then everyone chooses their favorite pumpkin according to our sizes (Daddy gets the biggest, etc) to carve or decorate with paint, glitter and sequins, then proudly display them on the front porch.

Since having children our biggest tradition on Halloween is to have a BYOP (bring your own pumpkin)party. All of the neighborhood kids and friends come over and we lay out everything they need to decorate the pumpkins. We have tricks and treats for the kids. It is great to see all of the pumpkins lit up at night on our block.

My husband and I carve two or three pumpkins each (that we pick from his family's pumpkin farm). Then we go home and carve them while eating sugar cookies, drinking hot cider, and watching Its the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown!!!

Toral

I like to carve a bunch of small pumpkins (10 or 12 or so) and leave them on friends' doorsteps, courtesy of The Great Pumpkin! :)

I grew up in Spain and, as good and incongruent as we europeans are, on Halloween we would first make fun of Americans and their pumpkins and costumes to, right away, go get ourselves into some costume and throw eggs at buses. We first had to convince ourselves that we were not as childish as the yanks... We are soooooo much better in Europe...

Where do I start? Halloween is my favorite holiday so we tend to have lots of traditions associated with it. My husband and I hold a Halloween party every other year (it started as every year but the work got overwhelming) You can see pictures from our last 2 parties here http://dbaker.smugmug.com/Holidays

As a family we do a Halloween Phantom every year - ding dong ditching friends and neighbors while leaving goodies at the door.

The past few years we have started a Halloween advent calendar that my kids love.

We also started having an outdoor movie night where we show the animated movie Monster House.

I love, love, love Halloween!

Liv

I love watching Charlie Brown's "The Great Pumpkin" special and just handing out candy all night.

When I was little, my favorite part of Halloween was dumping out my pillowcase of loot with my little brother and dividing our spoils amongst each other. I'd eat mine a few pieces a day while he'd hoard it in his room for years! It was so gross!

My dog and I always go to Howl and Yowl which benefits our local rescue organization. We enter the costume contest and play games such as bobbing for bones, scavenger hunts and the cheese ball toss.

Since we have a few friends that live on the same block, each year the families meet to go trick or treating together. The older kids help the younger ones. We usually go a few blocks and then go back to our best friends house for pizza and drinks. The kids look so forward to spending the time going around trick or treating together.

Amanda

Decorating the house so it is the scariest house on the block. We also carve pumpkins outside and toast the pumkin seeds YUM!

Jenn S.

Before we take the kids trick or treating we have a halloween themed meal where all the dishes are something spooky or halloweenlike. We have a blast preparing and eating our dinner.

I love carving pumpkins and then roasting the pumpkin seeds afterwards.

My dad didn't let my sister or I celebrate Halloween. But my parents got divorced and when I was 17, I went trick-or-treating for the first time. It was so much fun and I got quite a bit of candy. I dressed up as Hermione from Harry Potter. It was amazing.

We love to decorate for Halloween and we go all out. Scary things hanging from the tree, grave yard in the front, huge spider web with and ugly spider, smoke pouring out from under the porch, spoky music. We have hands and feet that are coming out of the ground. Every year the neighborhood comes over just to see what was done. We add something every year, and inprove. But it is something that we do together and have some much fun who can come up with the coolest idea.
